Being a buddy mentor means being a friendly guide for new students at Canyon View Elementary. You’ll help them feel welcome by sharing information about the school and its activities while introducing them to the Coyote community. Your support will make their transition smoother and more enjoyable by bonding over shared interests and helping them to build friendships. Together, you can create a positive and inclusive atmosphere that fosters a sense of belonging.

Parents are encouraged to attend and learn about opportunities to help in the classroom, understand bus schedules, lunch program, and learn more about ways to volunteer and support the Canyon View Family and Faculty Organization.

FAQ
Q: What is required of my child to be part of this? Do we need to meet often?
A: A willingness to be a friend to a new student at our school. How often you meet together is up to you, however we require that your child, if selected, attends at least the pizza meetup.
Q: Why aren’t incoming Kindergarten students part of this?
A: More than likely, every Kindergartener is new to Canyon View. These students will spend extra time getting to know the school, routines, and all of the new faces together as a class. Talk about team building!
Q: Is my child guaranteed to get picked?
A: Unfortunately, no. However, we try our best to make sure students get matched up as best as possible. Depending on the numbers, students may or may not have someone.
Q: Is there any cost associated with joining?
A: There is no cost to be part of this program. There may be times where you may incur costs, such as buying extra playing tokens at the pizza social, or transportation costs to visit your buddy.
Q: What happens if we cannot fulfill our duty as “mentors?”
A: Please reach out to our FFO president at canyonviewffo@gmail.com. We understand that summer can get busy! Please look ahead at the date for the Chuck E Cheese meetup, as that is a required event if you are selected.
